What Did You Learn?

I just got back from taking a week off to get rejuvenated from all the energy spent on getting ready for this year's Day of Healing. One of my favorite parts of the Day of Healing is hearing all the cool things you learned that day. So share with me and others some of the things you took away from that day.

I happened upon the information and link for 2008 Day of Healing while visiting a Fort Wayne-area Christian radio station website. The last two years of my life have been the most difficult I’ve ever experienced. Through much prayer, grief counseling, and the support of a wonderful pastor and his wife and church family, I—with some missteps—survived.
Somewhere in the process I came to realize and sense that God had a purpose in all of the pain—not that He created it—but that through His amazing touch and His amazing grace that pain did not have to be lost or wasted. I came to realize—to know—to fully believe—that God can do anything! God never fails. And a resolve began to be forged inside my spirit that I would pursue God for whatever He wanted to do with the rest of my life—for He literally had saved me twice.
Although I wished I’d known of this event last year and had the opportunity to attend then, I’m thrilled that I had the chance to attend this incredible seminar this past Saturday. By putting together the large host of sponsors that help underwrite the expenses of the seminar, the Wabash Friends Counseling Center has given an immense gift to people to allow them to attend an event at very reasonable price that otherwise would have cost much more.
Dr. Kevin Leman, the widely known and popular keynote speaker, has been one of my favorite guests on Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on the Family broadcast over the years. Listening to him live in the Ford Theater was an exciting event that left my friend’s right knee sore from me poking her every time Dr. Leman said something very funny—which was quite often.
The two workshops I attended were excellent. I stayed in the Ford Theater for Dr. Leman’s workshop on Birth Order: Why You Are the Way You Are and was fascinated with his great understanding of human nature. My second workshop in the afternoon was lead by Byron Stock who taught us about Emotional Intelligence and Building High Performance Leaders and Organizations. When Byron asked us to stand if in the last year, we had felt: anxious, frustrated, annoyed, fearful, and angry, I think all of us stood. His methods, however, for dealing with these emotions were very practical and, as he explained, could be put to work immediately.
This seminar was a great opportunity, and I look forward to being able to attend again in the future.

I found the keynote speaker a comedian. It was hard to take much of anything he said seriously when thinking of his instruction to lock a little kid outside as a corrective measure. He'd be good on Letterman though....imho

The Day of Healing was interesting for me in the fact I listened to Dr. Leman's workshop on the birth order. I am a substitute teacher for middle school and high school. I took surveys in class and I now know how to put young people in groups so they will work well together and learn in the process.

Also, I found an internet radio station just for teenagers which I shared with that age group in our Wednesday night youth meeting.

I agree with the other anonymous quote on this page - Dr. Leman was a comedian. More of a comedian than a religious or spiritual leader...
I must say that at the end of the day I was disappointed and let down by how I was offended at many times on many levels both as a woman and as a Christian. I cannot believe how well received his mockery of his wife was and also his asinine interpretations of scripture by implying sexual innuendos in this sacred text.
Please take the time and energy to research future keynote speakers. I understand that Dr. Leman has been widely recognized as a Christian leader - but this is supposed to be a day of healing. How can you heal when you are being mocked, teased, made fun of publicly about the way you may raise your children and scolded for what you children participate in.
This was my first time at Day of Healing, and although I am overwhelmingly disappointed in Dr. Leman, I thoroughly enjoyed my seminars with Dr. Priest on Redeeming Your Emotions, and 5 Keys to an Incredible Marriage with Dr. Gary Thomas. Please invite them back!!!
